DELTA CARE AND SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS BOARD OF DIRECTOR OPENING




Care and Scholarship Funds Board of Directors - Open to any Employee or Retiree - any division/role

The Delta Employee & Retiree Care Fund Board of Directors is responsible for the oversight of the Delta Employee & Retiree Care Fund, Inc. Those eligible to receive assistance from the Fund include Delta Air Lines, Inc employees, retirees and their survivors. The Fund provides assistance to eligible individuals who suffer a qualified financial hardship, including loss due to a disaster or other catastrophic event.  
Board responsibilities include determination of application and award criteria, oversight of funds distribution, compliance with IRS guidelines, adherence to sound financial management principles, initiation and oversight of annual giving campaign and fundraising events to increase fund availability. Board members are also responsible to recruit and support Champions around the world to promote the Care Fund in areas they represent and increase payroll deduction pledge participation and attend events to promote the Fund. 
  The 11-member volunteer board consists of 10 employees and 1 retiree. Board members are selected as follows: Five employees selected from among the following work groups and five positions open to any employee in any division to total ten active employees: 
    Airport Customer Service & Cargo 
    Flight Operations 
    In-Flight Service 
    Technical Operations 
    Reservations

One employee selected from the following work group: 
    Retiree

Candidates selected from each of the groups listed above are invited to serve as a member of the Care Fund Board of Directors for a 24 month term. Actual duties, policies and board member rotation are determined by the Care Fund Board. Each successful candidate will be expected to perform this assignment in conjunction with his or her current job responsibilities. This is a volunteer position and there will be no adjustment in pay rate.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates should:
Lead and influence decision making. Think strategically to develop and implement plan to reach areas represented. 
Build and maintain effective relationships.
Have experience leading successful fundraising events and annual giving/pledge campaign.
Demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills.
Work effectively in a team environment.
Work well independently with minimal supervision.
Maintain confidentiality.

Preferred qualifications include experience with:
Similar non-profit organizations in either public or private sector.
Participation and leadership roles on projects or within other organizations. 
Delta People Care Champion program promoting Care Fund & Scholarship Fund (See LMS, course code DLCHAMP)
Successful candidates must be able to commit minimum of 3-5 hours weekly with additional time based on divisional promotions and fundraising events. They must be available to participate in regular Board meetings in Atlanta and additional Board meetings by conference call, the frequency of which will be determined by the Board. They must also lead and support fundraising events during annual giving campaign and throughout the year, recruit and support Champions around the world in order to promote the Fund in areas they represent to increase payroll deduction pledge participation and attend events to promote the Fund. Candidates must be performing satisfactorily in current position and have their leader's approval.

OPENINGS Employee Board openings are published on bid. Retiree openings are published on Retiree Connection along with instructions for retirees to submit their resume to a Delta recruiter. Current Board members will interview and select new Board members.
